Last night the study club academic year winded down with the last event of the year. This was a fun-filled and educational program featuring a talk given by Shawn Achors, a Harvard graduate and instructor of one of the most popular classes at Harvard. He spoke on the topic of Happiness. Can we raise our happiness levels above our genetic set point? Yes, we can!
Mr. Achors suggested that doing one of five acts every day for 21 days can actually increase our happiness levels and change the filter through with we see the world. One of these acts includes sending out a compliment or message of appreciation to one person every day. Another suggestion is to express 3 simple gratitudes each day. ( For example, I had a great cup of coffee at Starbucks today.) This can be a great bonding experience for the entire family while sitting at the dinner table. His research has shown that we do not become happy when we achieve our goals but the other way around…feeling happy actually inspires productivity. The members also enjoyed an interactive session of sharing pearls of wisdom with each other. In the spirit of friendship and collegiality, Dr. Dayan and the members all want to help each other do better each day and take care of our patients in the very best way possible.
