Glyphosate is an herbicide poison applied to leaves of grasses and broad-leaf plants all over the United States. The herbicide’s main purpose is to kill weeds, however, its presence in nature is introducing a new epidemic of toxicity to animals, as well as humans. The herbicide poison applied directly onto our fruits and vegetables can spread to plants and even our own drinking water. This chemical has been found to be linked to chronic diseases such as cancer, autism, facial deformities, hypothyroidism, hormone imbalances, etc. The Mississippi River is full of Glyphosate from the farming belt and the cities lining the river have the highest rates of cancer per population in the world.
Recent studies have found that glyphosate has also been inducing brain abnormalities that affect facial development, causing faces to shrink. This toxicity in our bodies worsens into respiratory complications that may obstruct the pathways of our breathing. Underdevelopment of the upper jaw can further develop into nasopharyngeal airway restriction, sleep apnea and snoring.
Our mouth and gut should be full of healthy bacteria called the Microbiome that help our immunity, digestion and make important Vitamins and micronutrients. Glyphosate disrupts the healthy Microbiome. Exposure of the gut lining to glyphosate creates chronic inflammation, disruption of the protective gut lining and harm to our immune system. Disruption of the Microbiome in your mouth can lead to gum disease, dental decay, mouth breathing, sleep apnea, poor sleep and snoring.
I recommend this podcast featuring Dr. Mercola and Dr. Gominak for a more in-depth conversation.
What Can You Do To Reduce Your Risk?
First, everybody should watch the phenomenal Dr. Zach Bush’s interview on You Tube. He is a triple board-certified physician who is leading the revolution to help American farmers become independent of glyphosate and thrive again. Many people committed to helping American farmers contribute to his non-profit organization Farmer’s Footprint.
Stop using Round Up in your home. If you have weeds bend over and pluck them out.
Use a water filter to improve the quality of your drinking water. Even the most basic tabletop water filters can help to reduce exposure to glyphosate. Here is a link to the EPA Water Health Series full of useful filtration facts.
Eat organic produce and meats in your home. Let’s all eat more healthfully and support the farmers who are avoiding glyphosate to give us clean food. Unfortunately, glyphosate is now in the rain and drinking water and our rivers so it is impossible to avoid it completely.
How I Can Help
In addition to helping my patients with periodontal procedures like LANAP laser treatment for gum disease, I provide comprehensive services to help my patients with a functional approach to oral health. This includes evaluating the Microbiome to see if a lost healthy Microbiome is the root cause of the gum disease or grinding of the teeth or dental decay and tooth loss. It is my goal to get to the WHY of the problem, not just provide a temporary band aid for the symptoms.
I am available for in-office appointments and also via Video Visits. You can call my office at 310-205-0900 to schedule a consultation or book a Video Visit by clicking here. Feel free to fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page.
